For anyone who might not yet be familiar with the Bermuda Triangle story, here is a brief account of a common telling:
The Bermuda Triangle is a relatively small wedge (Florida to Bermuda to Puerto Rico) of the North Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida where hundreds of ships, boats, and people have mysteriously been vanishing for centuries. Abandoned ships and boats have been found, sometimes with meals set on the table and the food still warm. Dogs, cats, and birds have been found alive on some of those vessels.
Many airplanes, including an entire flight of Navy torpedo bombers and a search plane, have flown into oblivion there.
Survivors are not found in the Bermuda Triangle, which is also called the Devil’s Triangle, the Limbo of the Lost, the Hoodoo Sea and several other appellations. Debris is never/seldom found, and distress calls are rarely/ never heard. At times, it has been said, the sea did not look as it should. Mysterious fogs and strange white streaks have been reported.
All that would normally not be much of a mystery, considering that the ocean is vast, deep, and sometimes stormy. Neither airplanes, ships, boats, nor people are perfect, of course, but the grim disappearances/vanishments in the Bermuda Triangle are curiously mysterious because, it is reported, they happen when the weather is good! Many have occurred instantly and without warning. The number of disappearances within the boundaries of the Bermuda Triangle far exceeds the laws of chance.
Officially, the Coast Guard, Air Force, Navy, other government agencies, and scientists offer no explanations for the strange disappearances, but while admitting they are baffled, they deny the existence of the Bermuda Triangle and the menace therein. The few clues they do have only deepen the mystery.
Because the usual explanations for losses at sea do not account for the disappearances in this relatively small part of the ocean, some scientists and other experts who have studied the phenomenon have concluded that unknown, undiscovered, paranormal forces may possibly be at work. These are forces that are not yet understood, or that many authorities are said to be too close-minded to consider.
The exact nature of the aberrations and why they are localized within this wedge of tropical waters is not yet known at this time. In the absence of an official scientific answer, many theories have been suggested to explain the heretofore unexplained vanishments. They include phenomena such as atmospheric aberrations, black holes from space, holes in the sky, unexplained forces from Atlantis, strange electronic fogs, electromagnetic gravitational disturbances, tears in the space-time continuum, UFO captures, and other possibilities such as underwater discharges of methane gas.
In the absence of a definitive answer, there is no end to the theories that continue to be presented to solve the mystery of those who have been lost in the limbo.
That is a brief summary of the Bermuda Triangle story that began to creep into the public mind more than a half-century ago and continues to reside there today.
